the most beautiful in Italy ****

Well we have just returned from our second trip to the Hotel Miralago in Cernobbio and we are already planning our third trip there - friends who have heard us are also planning to go in 08. We have stayed in the Villa d'Este and the Villa Serbelloni and they are pompous in the extreme and not worth the money but they share with the Miralago, an extremely beautiful location.

This small hotel is charming with marvellous, friendly and helpful staff - we met a friendly american couple who were staying there for the fifth time.

In our humble opinion, the food at the hotel is much improved this year. The hairdryer that I mentioned last year has been replaced. Having just returned home last Friday, we are looking forward very much indeed to our return.

Loved this Hotel *****

We stayed at the Hotel Miralago for eight nights. Cernobbio is an excellent location to tour Lake Como and has some very good restaurants.

The hotel restaurant is also top notch. The hotel is a family run business and everyone is friendly and very helpful. There is a good knowledge of english. The staff are efficent , courteous and friendly.

The room had a lake view; but was small in size. The shower recess is extremely small. A shutter system enables you to block out noises and sunlight - very helpful for a good sleep-in.
We would stay there again becuse the hotel had a friendly feel about it and is ideally located.

Charming Hotel, Friendly Staff ****

Boat transportation on Lake Como View from Room 208 Hotel Miralago I just completed a wonderful two week stay in Cernobbio at the 3 star Hotel Miralago situated perfectly at the top of the square overlooking Lake Como.
Many rooms have a balcony overlooking the square facing the mountains and lake. (See photo from our room 208) The square is very lively, including a street party every Thursday night during season.

As everywhere in Italy, it is filled in the evening with people walking, talking and eating ice cream. It's really lovely whether you're walking or watching from your balcony at Miralago. The staff are very pleasant, can converse adequately in several languages, and made us feel very welcome.
Apparently, it has been owned by the same family for many years.
Our room was very small, though with the mountain/lake view it seemed much larger. Lighting in the rooms was good enough to read by, which isn't always the case in small European hotels.

What ever you do, don't leave your windows open at night with the room lights on. We made that mistake and had a room full of mosquitoes one night. Apparently they don't believe in spaying for mosquitoes here. Though the menu doesn't vary, it offers a wide choice of fish, meat, risotto, and other welll prepared dishes. There is a shortage of vegetables on offer however.

The few vegetables that accompany the dishes serve more as garni and are a bit overcooked by U.S. standards. If asked, the staff will serve other items not listed. We asked for strawberries after dinner and they were happy to give us very fresh, flavorful berries for dessert.

The morning of our departure, they opened the restaurant a few minutes early so that we could have a proper breakfast before we left. We really appreciated the effort. If you arrive by car, park directly in front of the hotel to unload. You are just a few steps from the lobby.
Even though there is no one to carry your bags up to your room, there is an elevator and it is very easy getting settled in. After unloading and check-in, the hotel car park is just a short walk away. The hotel doesn't do laundry, but there is a very nice one 5 minutes from the hotel. A beautiful swimming pool (not owned by the hotel) is located a the end of the square and there is a slight charge for its use.

Milan is about 45 minutes away and can be reached by bus or taxi. One may also take a train to/from Como, then taxi or boat to Cernobbio. Private boat rentals are available as are seaplane sight seeing tours. One can do as much or as little as you wish. Harry's Bar is located just out the front door. Villa Erba and Villa D'Este are each about a 5 minute walk. Bus and boat transportation are within steps of the hotel, though there is seldom anyone at the ticket office for the boats and they are somewhat unhelpful about their schedules.

A ten minute boat or bus ride and you're in Como. It is easy to get to the other towns around the lake a most are well worth a visit Menaggio, Moltrasio, Tremezzo,Tonno, Bellagio, and others are all quite pretty. By all means see the lake from both the lake side and the road. You get a very different feel each way.
The local shopping is a bit thin and the store hours are confusing. Even during "open" hours some of the shops seemed to remain closed. Como or Milan are a better bet for shopping.

Lugano, Switzerland is less than an hour's drive and is well worth the trip. I've been home for five days and already miss my beautiful room with a view and the heavenly Cernobbio. I highly recommend the Lake Como area and Hotel Miralago.
